I am very proud to teach the Managing Technology class for the Executive Program in News Innovation and Leadership at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, and working with the amazing group of leaders to make better, faster, and more strategic decisions about technology. In this module, we dive into: - Understanding tech not as a cost center, but as a strategic enabler, from content creation to audience engagement and revenue. - Identifying the real root of tech challenges (spoiler: it’s often not the tool). - Applying a decision-making framework that connects mission, value proposition, and implementation realities. - Anticipating trade-offs, aligning teams, and choosing tech that creates long-term value, not just short-term fixes. We analyze real-world case studies, from analytics hubs to AI-powered personalization tools, to show how technology can help media organizations stay responsive to audience behavior and build sustainability. If any of these resonates with you, applications are now open to the program, and you can read more about it below 👇

💭 How do today’s news product leaders level up and develop their skills to transform their newsrooms? · Leah Becerra, Product Director at the Reynolds Journalism Institute & NPMC Cohort 1 alum says, “This program gave me a new layer of knowledge and helped me be more strategic and intentional. It really pushed my career in an amazing direction.” · Marcela Duarte, Head of Product at Agência Lupa & NPMC Cohort 1 alum says, “Being part of this program transformed not only the way I work but my product team’s workflow. 👀 What keeps today’s news leaders up at night? Every year we ask that question to our Executive Program in News Innovation and Leadership participants, and the answers offer a powerful glimpse into the challenges shaping journalism today. This year, our cohort is grappling with big questions about AI, sustainability, and leadership – → Gary Lavariere, Chief Revenue Officer at The Berkshire Eagle, reflects: “How do we continue to train our audience that our content is worth paying for?” → Mariah Craddick, Executive Director of Product at The Atlantic, asks: “How do we best equip our teams in the midst of this [AI] change?” These leaders aren’t just reacting to change — they’re shaping the future of journalism with purpose and persistence. Are you ready to join them? Application are closing for the next Executive Program cohort on May 2. ⚡️ Learn more and apply today ↓ https://lnkd.in/ekXP23sw
